NEWCASTLE United are stepping up their interest in strike pair Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre-Pierre Gignac, according to reports in France tonight.
The Magpies are in the hunt for two new frontmen – possibly three if Papiss Demba Cisse leaves the club this summer over the shirt sponsorship row that has seen him miss Newcastle’s tour to Portugal this week.
Marseille target man Gignac has been linked with Newcastle in the past, but the 27-year-old’s £12m price tag seemed an obstacle.
Meanwhile, Lyon owner Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed on Twitter that Newcastle and Aston Villa are in discussions with the club over Gomis.
When asked if the Premier League duo were in talks over Gomis, he replied: “Yes, it is not incorrect.”
The French international was previously linked with a move to Tyneside during the Kevin Keegan and Dennis Wise regime.
