Newcastle United are returning to Europe for a pre-season friendly.

The club has announced a warm-up fixture against one-time Intertoto Cup opponents Sporting Lokeren on Saturday, July 23.

Rafa Benitez's side will visit the 9,560-capacity Daknamstadion, in East Flanders, on Saturday, July 24 (4.30pm kick-off local time).

Newcastle, preparing for their Championship campaign, have previously confirmed friendlies against Bohemian Doncaster Rovers and Vitesse Arnhem.

United played Lokeren, now managed by former Belgium coach Georges Leekens, home and away in the 2001-02 season.

Newcastle, then managed by Sir Bobby Robson, won the away leg 4-0 and claimed a 1-0 victory at St James's Park thanks to Craig Bellamy's first goal for the club.
