Newcastle United have sold more than 40,000 tickets for tomorrow night's EFL Cup tie against Preston North End.
The club revealed the astonishing advance ticket sales figure through its Twitter account this afternoon.
United tweeted: "We've now sold more than 40,000 tickets for tomorrow's @EFLCup round four tie with @pnefc!"
Championship leaders Newcastle have been selling discounted tickets for the fourth-round tie.
Manager Rafa Benitez said: "I am enjoying the moment. We will have more than 40,000 fans for this game, and I'm really pleased with that."
The club's third-round win over Wolverhampton Wanderers was watched by a crowd of 34,735.
And the Preston tie could be watched by the club's biggest home League Cup attendance since 1976, when 49,902 watched a Wembley-bound United beat Tottenham Hotspur at the semi-final stage.
UPDATE: Newcastle have now sold more than 42,000 tickets for the Preston game.
