NEWCASTLE United have agreed a £9m fee for Loic Remy, according to reports in France.
The Olympic Marseille striker is understood to be heading to Tyneside to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.
And long-term target Remy, 26, could finally complete a move to St James’s Park early this week.
Former Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton revealed he has spoken to Remy about the club on social networking site Twitter.
Barton, on loan at the Stade Velodrome from Queens Park Rangers, tweeted: “Good luck to Loic in Newcastle.
“Don’t worry i’ve told him what to expect. Great guy. Perfect club for him. #toonarmy.”
United are looking to replace Demba Ba, who joined Chelsea earlier this month after the Stamford Bridge club activated a release clause in his contract.
