And Viera and Taylor are likely to line up against the Magpies this weekend, where the Spaniard will be able to take a closer look at the Whites duo.

Guinea-Bissau-born Vieira has caught the eye with his all action displays at Elland Road this season, and as a result has come onto Benitez and United's radar.

It has been reported that Newcastle have sent scouts to check on the teenage central midfielder in recent months, with view to a move in January.

However, their trailing of left-back Taylor goes back much further.

It's understood United have been scouting Taylor, who has also been linked with moves to West Ham, West Brom and Middlesbrough, for around 18 months.

The 23-year-old is thought to be valued in excess of £5million by the Leeds board.
