The club today published its financial results for the year ending June 30, 2015 and they reveal the profit after tax was up to £32.4m from a figure of £18.7m the previous year.

The wages-to-turnover ratio fell from 60.3% in 2014 to 50.5% last year.

The club, which had an average home attendance of 50,349 in 2014-15, had £48.3m in the bank last summer.
Meanwhile, the lack of characters and strong characters within the Newcastle dressing room has been exposed by writer Miles Starforth in a revealing comment piece.

In today's Gazette, Miles wrote: "Alan Shearer and Kevin Nolan didn’t trundle past reporters with their heads down and their phones glued to their ears after games.

"They spoke. They said what needed to be said.

"Shearer and Nolan led by example on the field and had the character to front up after defeats.

"I wrote about the silence in the away dressing room after the club’s 6-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in October.

"That came as a shock to Steve McClaren, Benitez’s managerial predecessor.

"Where are the voices?

"The club has been too quiet for too long."

And finally, Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot is on the long road to recovery after undergoing surgery.

Elliot ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament playing for the Republic of Ireland last week.

Elliot will miss 'several' months including the rest of the Premier League campaign and the Euro 2016 tournament with the Republic of Ireland.
