Jonjo Shelvey has spoken about Rafa Benitez's decision to leave him out of his Newcastle United starting XI.
The £12million signing was axed for Saturday's game against Swansea City, his former club.
Shelvey – who had been captaining Benitez's side in the absence of club skipper Fabricio Coloccini – came off the bench to help relegation-threatened Newcastle win 3-0 and move to within three points of 17th-placed Norwich City.
The 24-year-old hadn't spoken to the local Press since his unveiling in January, but he broke his silence after the Swansea game.
United manager Benitez also had his say on the decision to drop Shelvey and make Moussa Sissoko captain.
Defender Jamaal Lascelles – who scored Newcastle's opening goal – also revealed the reaction of his team-mates to his strident comments after the club's defeat at Southampton a week earlier.
Meanwhile, Benitez also gave an injury update on Coloccini and Daryl Janmaat ahead of tonight's home game against Manchester City.
Benitez will face the media this afternoon ahead of the match.
