Steven Taylor will leave Newcastle United this summer after a 12-year first-team career at St James's Park.

The relegated club today confirmed that the out-of-contract defender is being released at the end of the month.

Taylor, 30, has turned down the offer of an incentive-based new deal.

However, Kevin Mbabu, Taylor's defensive colleague, will stay at United.

The club has taken up an option of a two-year extension to the 21-year-old's contract.

United manager Rafa Benitez is planning for the club's Championship campaign.

And former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer has spoken about the 56-year-old's decision to stay at St James's Park in the wake of relegation.

Meanwhile, United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, away with England's Under-19s ahead of the European Championships, has spoken about his club career and his pride at playing for his country.
