The striker, deputising for the injured Dwight Gayle, ably led the line as Newcastle dominated Leeds United, who claimed a point from a 1-1 draw thanks to a 95th-minute equaliser.
United manager Benitez must choose between Mitrovic and Daryl Murphy for tomorrow’s Championship game against Ipswich Town.
Asked about Mitrovic’s performance against Leeds, Benitez said: “He was fine.
“It was good, but all of them did well and Mitrovic was one of them.”
Second-placed Newcastle need a win to maintain their eight-point lead over Huddersfield Town, who are away to Derby County this evening.
On United’s approach to the Ipswich game, Benitez said: “It is to fight like we fought we try to play at the same level. We just have to keep going and keep going the same way.”
Meanwhile, 15th-placed Ipswich are all but safe after beating Burton Albion 2-1 at on Good Friday.
Manager Mick McCarthy said: “I said to the players that we have the hardest game on Monday against Newcastle, so get the job done (against Burton).
“They have responded to that. We had better chances, had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside in the first-half, and we deserved to win.
“It’s a big three points for us, and now we can look forward to a great game against Newcastle on Monday.”
United will be backed by 2,000 fans at Portman Road.
