Cheick Tiote WILL get a chance for Newcastle United between now and the New Year, according to Rafa Benitez.
The midfielder, in the final year of his contract, was expected to leave the club in the summer.
But proposed moves to a number of clubs, including Galatasaray and Olympiacos, broke down.
And interest in the 30-year-old from clubs in the United Arab Emirates came to nothing before the transfer window there closed last week.
Long-serving Tiote will now look to move on in the January transfer window.
In the meantime, United manager Benitez won’t be afraid to use him in Newcastle’s Championship promotion campaign.
“He is training very well, and I would like to give him a chance before January,” said Benitez, who had considered naming Tiote on the bench for Tuesday night’s EFL Cup tie against Preston North End, which United won 6-0.
“His mentality is fine. He’s trained well and I’m pleased with him. I was considering putting him in the squad for Preston in the cup, but that would mean leaving someone else out and that would not be fair.”
Tiote, signed from FC Twente in the summer of 2010, has made one substitute appearance for the club so far this season.
