Rafa Benitez has given Newcastle United fans a festive message after his team claimed the No 1 spot at Christmas.
Goals from Dwight Gayle and Mohamed Diame gave the club a hard-fought 2-1 win over Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium yesterday.
And Newcastle lead second-placed Brighton and Hove Albion by one point going into a nine-day Christmas break.
United manager Benitez told BBC Radio Newcastle: "For us, the main thing was to get three points, be sure that the team is strong enough and be sure we have confidence in ourselves.
"We know we can come here, compete and win. That is really good for the future.
"Now it is to enjoy Christmas. Our fans will be happy, so I wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
"That is pleasing, because you have some time with the family, and at the same time you can look at the table and enjoy."
Newcastle take on Sheffield Wednesday at St James's Park on Boxing Day.
