Moussa Sissoko is due back at Newcastle United on August 1.
The midfielder was given an extended break away from the club because of his involvement in Euro 2016 with losing finalists France.
Sissoko, like Liverpool-bound Georginio Wijnaldum, wants to leave St James's Park in the wake of the club's relegation to the Championship.
A clutch of clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, are interested in the 26-year-old, who wants to stay in England and play "top-level matches".
But unless there are any developments in the next 11 days, he will have to report back to the club's training ground at the start of next month ahead of the new Championship campaign.
United manager Rafa Benitez said: “Moussa is due to report back on August 1.
"He will report back like everybody else has, and then we will go from there. We will see him on the first of August, but until then it is not really worth talking about anything because he is not here."
Some Newcastle fans chanted "Moussa Sissoko, we want you to go" during last night's 2-2 draw with Doncaster Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium.
United are looking for a £35million fee for Sissoko, signed from Toulouse in January 2013.
Meanwhile, midfielder Wijnaldum is due to undego a medical at Liverpool today after the club had a £25million bid accepted by Newcastle.
