Ryan enjoying the Championship lottery

RYAN Taylor is hoping his lucky numbers come up with Newcastle United.

Taylor has likened the Championship to a lottery, such is its unpredictability.

League leaders Newcastle resume their promotion campaign at Preston North End on Monday night, and Taylor is confident United can find another winning combination, having won their last three games.

"Other than ourselves, it's a lottery," said Taylor. "We've obviously won the games we've been expected to win.

"People will say we should win every game, but it's never as easy as that.

"It's tough when you have an away game on Saturday, and then an away game on the Tuesday.

"You look at that when we went Scunthorpe a few weeks ago, and the reason those back to back away games are tough is because everybody wants to beat us.

"When you look at the results coming through on a Saturday night, or after a game, it's mad, and, as I say, it's a lottery, because people are getting beat left, right and centre, both home and away.

"But the lads are enjoying sitting top of the league, and long may it continue."

Former England Under-21 international Taylor was among those not away on international duty over the past fortnight, and he feels all the better for a break.

The 25-year-old added: "I think the lads all needed a break, but as far as momentum's concerned, we probably could have kept going, as we're on a roll.

"We've come back after international breaks and been quite strong. We're looking to go to Preston and do the same.

"There are no problems after the break – everything is still there in terms of confidence and team spirit. We've just had the few days off, and it has freshened everybody up.

"It's a long old season in the Championship, and I think the break will do everybody the world of good."
