Tiote injury boost for United ahead of WBA clash

CLOSE TO FITNESS ... Cheik Tiote should be back for United at The Hawthorns.

CLOSE TO FITNESS ... Cheik Tiote should be back for United at The Hawthorns.

CHEIK Tiote’s expected to be fit for Newcastle United’s visit to The Hawthorns – but Ryan Taylor’s unlikely to face West Bromwich Albion.

The pair sat out yesterday’s 1-0 win over Norwich City at St James’s Park.

Tiote was sidelined with a muscle strain suffered in the defeat to Arsenal a week ago, while Taylor has missed the last two games with a calf problem.

Match report: Newcastle United 1 Norwich City 0

Pardew’s desperate to have the pair back sooner rather than later, but he’s braced to be without Taylor at West Brom.

However, he hopes the utility player will be back for the visit of Liverpool, his boyhood team, to St James’s Park on April 1.

“I think he’ll be OK for West Brom, and we’re going to need him,” Pardew told the Gazette. “I don’t think Ryan will make West Brom, but maybe Liverpool.”

Pardew was at the DW Stadium on Saturday, when 12th-placed West Brom were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Wigan Athletic.

“I saw West Brom, and they’re a tough team,” he said.”
