Toon old boy tells it like it is
I'VE always had a lot of time for Andy Griffin.
As a player, Griffin never gave anything less than 100 per cent for Newcastle United.
And off the field, he was as honest as they come.
So it was heartening to read the Stoke City captain's thoughts on this summer's long-running Cristiano Ronaldo saga, which at one point saw the Manchester United labelled a modern-day slave.
Griffin said: "I wouldn't mind earning 55,000 a week and being a slave for that sort of money.
"I think you have to stay in touch with reality.
"You turn on the television and things that are on there should keep you in touch with the real world.
"You see people trying to get by on 10,000 a year, never mind a week, and then you can put on another channel and you see someone living in a mud hut in Africa."
Well said, Griff.
