ALAN Pardew’s claimed that Mathieu Debuchy is “happy” at Newcastle United – and not eyeing a summer move.
In an interview with a French radio station, Debuchy hinted that he was open to a move away from St James’s Park at the end of the season.
However, Pardew has spoken to the defender – a close friend of former United midfielder Yohan Cabaye, now at Paris Saint-Germain – to clarify his comments.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s home game against Aston Villa, Pardew said: “I don’t think it’s accurate.
“I spoke to him, and he’s happy at this football club.
“He’s signed for another four years, I think. He’s done very well for us.
“As far as I’m concerned, he’s a player who is going to be here.
“We are looking to change and strengthen in a lot of positions next year, but that won’t be one of them.”
France international Debuchy, 28, joined Newcastle in January last year from Lille.
