Alex Neil refused to write off Newcastle United after Norwich City moved six points clear off them.

Rafa Benitez’s side were beaten 3-2 at Carrow Road on Saturday.

There’s a lot of football still to be played.

A dramatic injury-time goal from Martin Olsson decided the Premier League game.

While Newcastle’s position now looks hopeless, Norwich manager Neil cited the example of leaders Leicester City – who were bottom at this time last year – when asked if he saw any way out for United.

“I think it’s always tough,” said Neil.

“There are seven games left, so you need to put a real good run together, I don’t think there’s any questions about that.

“They’ve got real qualities players, there’s no doubts about that. It is a real hard one.

“Are they capable of doing it? I think if you look at Leicester last season, they managed to do it.

“There’s a lot of football still to be played.”

But Neil added: “I’m entirely convinced I have enough in my squad to remain in this league. I think (the Newcastle win) will go a long way to helping that.”
