Rafa Benitez feels Newcastle United’s last two games have given the city renewed hoped that the club can stay in the Premier League.

Benitez’s side beat Swansea City at home and drew 1-1 with Manchester City at St James’s Park.

Everyone in the city thought we cannot do this, but after these two games I think a lot of people are saying we still can do it. So we will see.

And a win over Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon would see Newcastle climb out of the relegation zone.

Speaking about the mood after the Southampton defeat earlier this month, United manager Benitez said: “A lot of people thought we couldn’t do it.

“Everyone in the city thought we cannot do this, but after these two games I think a lot of people are saying we still can do it. So we will see.”

Asked if it will go to the last game, Benitez added: “I hope so.

“That means we will have a chance at home against Tottenham. Tottenham is a great team, but still we play at home. Hopefully, we can get out of it.”
