MAMADOU Sakho has re-emerged as a Newcastle United target.

The injury-hit club is looking to sign a defender in next month’s transfer window.

And Sakho is reportedly growing frustrated at Paris Saint-Germain, where he has found his opportunities limited this season under Carlo Ancelotti.

The 22-year-old has been watched by Newcastle this season, according to sources in France.

And his name is understood to have been circulated to a number of clubs, including United, by his representatives ahead of the transfer window.

Alex and Thiago Silva are Ancelotti’s first-choice central defensive pairing, but an injury to the former has seen Sakho return to the side in recent weeks.

However, the France international’s long-term future could well be away from the Parc des Princes.

And Newcastle, where there’s a strong French influence in the dressing room, would be an attractive destination for Sakho, should he decide to move on.

United manager Alan Pardew is keen to bring at least two players to St James’s Park in the window, with defensive and attacking reinforcements – he has admitted his interest in Marseille striker Loic Remy – the priority.

Newcastle are understood to be in talks with Marseille for Remy, who has fallen out of favour at the Stade Velodrome.

The 25-year-old is rated in the £10m bracket, though reports have suggested his club are looking for significantly more for the France international.

Meanwhile, Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp distanced himself from a move for United striker Demba Ba after his club’s 1-0 defeat at St James’s Park on Saturday.

Ba is available for £7.5m because of a release clause in his contract.

And QPR had reportedly offered the 27-year-old an £80,000-a-week contract.

But Redknapp said: “We’ve not got £7m to spend on a player, I’d have thought.”

Redknapp originally revealed that Ba had a release clause in his Newcastle contract a year ago while in charge of Tottenham Hotspur.
