JAMIE Chandler hopes to put a frustrating start at Gateshead behind him and dump favorites Luton Town out of the FA Trophy.

The Tynesiders will head into the last-eight tie at Kenilworth Road as underdogs, but Boldon-born Chandler believes the Heed will have no fear.

The 22-year-old has missed the last three games, including the 2-1 morale-boosting win at York City in midweek, after his straight red card in the defeat to Newport County.

The box-to-box midfield man still contests the sending off, but has now set his sights on returning to the side as soon as possible.

Chandler said: “It was a great win against York City, and it was a big boost for the club, and hopefully we can now push on.”

“It was important to get the three points and get back in the mix, and it was a massive performance from the lads.

“The most frustrating thing about my suspension is that I still don’t know why I was sent off. The referee said I kicked out. but I can’t remember that.

“I am back now, however, and the competition is healthy in midfield. It is up to me to really work my socks off and get back in the side.

“Confidence will be high after York City, and and we feel we are a match for anyone. If we play our football, we can come away with a result that will shock some people.

The Tynesiders’ last visit to Kenilworth Road in October ended in a 5-1 drubbing, as they struggled without defender and captain Ben Clark.

Manager Ian Bogie should have a near fully-fit side available this time, however, with only striking duo Nathan Fisher and Liam Hatch unavailable.

Leading scorer Jon Shaw returned to the side in midweek as they moved back into the top eight, and within a point of the final play-off position.
