Jarrow Roofing boss happier now he's surrounded by '˜good people'

Just one win from their first 11 games in all competitions – against tomorrow’s opponents Ryhope CW – sparked a managerial change, with Ian Davison being replaced by former Seaham Red Star boss Mark Collingwood.

A raft of new signings followed, but wins have still proved to be few and far between under the new managerial structure. Despite heading into tomorrow’s game at the Boldon CA Sports Ground in 17th position in the Northern League Division One table, McLoughlin says he has got the buzz back for football.

“From the start of the season, I wasn’t really enjoying it,” he said. “There are numerous reasons why I felt that way, but the last few weeks have changed that for me.

“We might not have achieved as many wins as we would have liked at this point in the season, but I am now surrounded by good people, and I can see signs of recovery and progress every week from this team.”

Roofing lost 4-0 against Morpeth last time out, but McLoughlin feels the players are ready to respond.

“Everyone was hurting and determined to put things right as soon as possible. We haven’t had that mentality at certain points during this season, but I think the introduction of many local lads has helped to achieve it.

“We now have a great blend of some of the best talent from the South Tyneside area and some exceptional players from further afield, and these players understand what it means to play for this club.”
