South Shields are set to be given their toughest test yet in Evo-Stik North this weekend.

The Mariners host early table-toppers Bamber Bridge at Mariners Park tomorrow before travelling to take on a Scarborough Athletic side chasing promotion themselves on Monday.

With two wins from two so far in the league, Shields will go into the games feeling confident.

Joint manager Lee Picton has warned that they are in for a difficult three days, though.

He said: “It hasn’t been an easy start for us.

“Trafford were a tough test for us in the first game in particular, and now we’ve got Bamber Bridge and Scarborough in the space of three days.

“They’re teams who I’m sure have got aspirations of being there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

“We’re going to have to do what we did at the back end of last season and utilise the squad again across the weekend.

“We’ve given some careful consideration to our strategy, but we’re thoroughly looking forward to it.

“We’ve had an opportunity to train twice this week, and then follow that up with two games in quick succession, so it’s an exciting weekend for us.”

Julio Arca is set to return to contention for Shields this weekend after playing an hour for the reserves on Wednesday.

Kick-off in tomorrow’s game at Mariners Park is at 3pm, with admission – to be paid at the turnstiles – costing £8 for adults, £6 for students and over-65s, and £2 for under-16s.
