Bruce happy enough with draw

STEVE Bruce was thrilled at having snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat against West Ham United - but knew his Sunderland team could have won the game.

He said: "For me, it's what the Premier League is all about. We've witnessed a fantastic game.

"With the energy that we've shown - especially after the intensity of the 120 minutes against Aston Villa on Tuesday - to get back into the game from our point of view at 2-1 down and with an entire half to play with 10 men, it was terrific.

"If I was a greedy person I would say that we had enough chances to have even won it.

"That second-half performance was absolutely fantastic. We were better with 10 men, and we should have won the game.

"We had two chances straight away and had half a dozen overall.

"Darren Bent has won so many games for us this season, but this wasn't his day.

"He kept on going though, and I thought he was magnificent. He just kept on going and created a lot of his chances himself.

"He'll be disappointed he missed a few, but he'll be back.

"The one thing I was worried about was fatigue, after playing extra-time on Tuesday.

"But the atmosphere was great, and I think fans at this football club want their side to play that way.

"It epitomises what they expect of their team.

"To a man, we were magnificent second-half. It looked as though West Ham were down to 10 men.

"We couldn't have done any more."
