Former Newcastle United winger Charles N’Zogbia is training with Sunderland - although that is the currently the extent of the Black Cats’ interest in the Frenchman.
N’Zogbia is a free agent after being released by relegated Aston Villa in the summer and was at the Academy of Light today on the opening day of pre-season training with Sunderland.
At the moment, Sunderland have no plans to offer the 30-year-old a permanent contract and boss Sam Allardyce has just given him the chance to keep in shape.
However, if N’Zogbia impresses the Sunderland boss, then there is always a chance that he could return to the North East.
N’Zogbia made just two appearances for Villa last season as he wound down the final months of his estimated £50,000-a-week wages at Villa Park.
Sunderland attempted to sign N’Zogbia prior to his move to Villa but then Black Cats boss Steve Bruce was unable to strike a deal in the summer of 2011.
