Former Sunderland striker is new Hebburn boss

HEBBURN Town have appointed former Sunderland striker David Rush as their new manager.

Rush replaces Tony Robinson, who stepped down as boss last month after 17 years in charge.

Hebburn are hoping Rush, who played for Sunderland in the 1992 FA Cup Final, will help them push from promotion from Division Two of the Northern League.

Chairman Bill Laffey said: "We are absolutely delighted to have David, with his wealth of experience, joining us in our fight to push this club forward.

"He not only has football league pedigree with Sunderland, Hartlepool United and York City, but later in his career had spells with Northern League sides Seaham Red Star and Morpeth Town.

"He has also coached at Crook Town and Durham City, and is now undertaking FA coaching training to extend his knowledge base.

"David lives locally, understands local football and the resource limitations of clubs like ours.

"The committee and myself look forward to working with David to improve on our current position, and make a promotion push in the near future, assisted by our main sponsors Premier Scaffolding."

* JARROW couldn't finish off their Wearside League season with victory after they were beaten 3-1 by Ashbrooke Belford House.

Andy Barclay got Jarrow's consolation, Martin Deacon (2) and Peter Benson scoring for Ashbrooke.
