A 3-0 defeat to fellow relegation rivals Swansea City saw the Black Cats slip to the foot of the table having only recently climbed off it.

But for Moyes there is no need to man the panic stations just yet, with the Scotsman expecting plenty more twists and turns as the Premier League season progresses

The Sunderland boss also pointed to home form as a key factor as his side attempt to battle their way up the table.

Having had their chances in a closely-fought first half, Sunderland fell victim to a Fernando Llorente brace alongside a Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty after the interval.

While the result sends Sunderland to the basement, they are still only one point from safety as the bottom of the table becomes more compact.

And it’s a position they know well, having occupied bottom spot for the vast majority of the opening few months of the season.

Moyes, though, knows that there is plenty more football to be played and backed his side to bounce back again.

"We were out of it a while ago and now we’re back in it," he said, speaking to the press at the Liberty Stadium

"It’s chopped and changed, as you can see, and it will continue to chop and change."

A key result in Sunderland’s season so far was the resounding 3-0 home win over Hull City, which helped to kick-start an impressive run of results and performances after a difficult start.

And Moyes was able to draw comparisons between that result and the defeat inflicted on his side by Swansea, suggesting that home form is critical for teams in a relegation battle.

"We beat Hull 3-0 at home the other week and Swansea have done the same to us.

"There’s a lot on teams at this level winning their home games and Swansea have done that."
