BAD MOVE ... Modibo Diakite, right.

BAD MOVE ... Modibo Diakite, right.

MODIBO Diakite’s agent has suggested that the French defender made a mistake in joining Sunderland during the summer.

Diakite completed a loan move to Serie A outfit Fiorentina on transfer deadline day – just six months after leaving fellow Italian side Lazio to join Sunderland on a Bosman deal.

The 26-year-old made just seven Premier League appearances for the Black Cats after being signed by ex-director of football Roberto De Fanti.

And with Sunderland ready to let Diakite, pictured, leave on a permanent deal next summer, the centre-half’s agent Ulisse Savini hopes he can prove his worth after returning to Italy.

Savini told reporters in Italy said: “Modibo has a great desire to get back to the Italian league with an important team.

“We are happy, he has five months to get his games and prove his worth, and show that he is a major player.

“He left Lazio and it’s not gone in the best way, that is true.

“Sometimes in life you make choices which with the benefit of hindsight, you would not do.”
