Jeremain Lens and Jack Rodwell will both be in contention for Sunderland’s Stadium of Light clash against Arsenal this weekend.
The pair missed last Saturday’s 3-0 triumph at Norwich City with minor knocks after both had been introduced from the bench in the defeat against Leicester City six days earlier.
But the duo have returned to full training and are battling to be included amongst the substitutes for Sunday’s visit of the Gunners, as Sunderland look to move out of the Premier League’s relegation zone.
“They’re back in the squad, there’s no doubt about that,” Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce told the club’s website.
“Having a fully fit squad leaves me with the problem of leaving people out, who don’t even get on the bench.
“But it does give me good options in terms of selection or making substitutions.
“The subs can make a difference to the team and make it better.
“You can see by the substitution we made on Saturday that Duncan had a big impact on the second half, and Seb (Larsson) for the pass to Duncan for his goal.”
The only minor injury concern from Sunderland’s win at Norwich was Fabio Borini, who left Carrow Road with an ice-pack on his shin after the ugly challenge from Andre Wisdom which saw the Black Cats awarded a penalty.
However, Borini will be available to keep his place against the Gunners after netting his fourth of the season last weekend.
