Sunderland end interest in Tottenham striker

IN DEMAND ... Tottenham Hotspur's Roman Pavlyuchenko.

IN DEMAND ... Tottenham Hotspur's Roman Pavlyuchenko.

TOTTENHAM striker Roman Pavlyuchenko is having a medical with Lokomotiv Moscow, according to reports, ending rumours linking him with a switch to Sunderland.

Pavlyuchenko, 30, has found playing time limited under Harry Redknapp this season and is now set to return to his homeland.

The Russian international joined Tottenham from Spartak Moscow in 2008 for a reported fee of £14million, and the fee reported to be taking him to Lokomotiv is around £7.5million.

He had been linked with a move to Sunderland and Newcastle, with the Wearsiders reported to be interested in him today as they searched for a striker.

However, it now appears Pavlyuchenko will leave England in search of first-team football and leave Sunderland still looking for an elusive striker.

They have been linked with the likes of Emile Heskey and Kevin Davies, but time is fast running out for the Black Cats to secure a deal.

Meanwhile, one of the motivating factors behind Pavlyuchenko’s Spurs exit appears to be the imminent arrival of Louis Saha, who is thought to be close to joining the club from Everton.
