Swansea’s Graham rules out move to Boro as Sunderland close in on striker

SUNDERLAND-BOUND? ... Swansea's Danny Graham.

SUNDERLAND-BOUND? ... Swansea's Danny Graham.

SUNDERLAND deadline day target Danny Graham has ruled out a return to former club Middlesbrough.

As the Gazette reveals today, Sunderland agreed a fee with Swansea for Graham yesterday, and the 27-year-old flew to the North East last night for planned talks this morning.

But reports have suggested Boro have also had an offer around the £5m mark accepted for their former player, who was released from the Riverside in the summer of 2007.

Graham’s representatives have now confirmed though that the striker is not willing to drop back into the Championship.

The Gateshead-born striker has always been keen to play at the highest level possible after rejecting a larger offer from League One Huddersfield to sign for Championship Watford in 2009.

He has been eager to join Sunderland throughout the transfer window, and he is expected to become the Black Cats’ third January acquisition before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
