Hebburn aim to claw their way out of trouble
HEBBURN Town boss Rob Marsden has already seen enough to believe his side can claw their way out of trouble at the bottom of Northern League Division Two.
Marsden was appointed manager after David Rush resigned following a horrific start to the season.
Only crisis club Darlington RA kept Hebburn off the bottom when the 32-year-old took the reins, but he has since embarked on a run of four games without defeat to improve their position.
The South Tynesiders are by no means out of danger, and the fact that three of those four games have come against the only two sides now below them – RA and Birtley – and fellow strugglers Team Northumbria shows that there is still a long way to go.
But Marsden is confident his side can survive the dreaded drop, which would be catastrophic to the club.
He said: "I don't think we're a relegation side – it's just been about confidence.
"I believe we can claw our way out of it.
"If we can win two or three games on the bounce, we can move up three or four places, but we've been playing catch-up."
Hebburn made it two wins in a row last weekend by beating Birtley, which followed Marsden's first success as manager against RA.
And he has pinpointed that victory as being crucial to his side's belief, saying: "The lads were elated and jumping about in the dressing room.
"The (RA) win was what we needed, and helped with the confidence."
Hebburn face a tough test of how far they've come tomorrow when they travel to newly-promoted Gillford Park, who sit in fifth spot.
