Hebburn need to find their shooting boots
GOAL-SHY Hebburn Town need to find their shooting boots if they are to pull themselves out of the relegation mire.
That's the stark warning from manager Rob Marsden after seeing his side crash to successive league defeats.
Hebburn had seemingly turned the corner under Marsden's stewardship, going five games unbeaten which culminated in a 5-0 victory at Gillford Park.
But the old problem of chances being made but not converted has reared its ugly head again.
And it has prompted Marsden to step up his efforts to bring in a new striker.
Hebburn lost 3-0 at both Northallerton and then at home to Brandon, and the latter defeat was particularly hard to take given the number of opportunites that were spurned.
Marsden said: "We need to pull ourselves out of the little bit of a rut we have got ourselves into.
"We are creating loads of chances, but have not been putting the ball in the back of the net.
"Brandon had less of the game, but put their chances away, and that's what wins game.
"I'm a little bit closer to getting a proven striker in, but we'll have to wait and see."
Hebburn's Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup game at home to Sunderland RCA on Wednesday night was postponed after a deluge of rain.
It came as something of a relief to the club, who have seen players hit by flu and injuries, and committee men struck down by swine flu.
Gary Rogers, David Myers, Kyle Pendergood, Willie Crew, Paul Trosh and Anthony Myers would all have missed the game, but all bar the latter – who has a damaged pelvis – are hopeful of returning tomorrow.
