Hebburn throw away two-goal lead
HEBBURN Town are still looking for their first win of the season after seeing Crook come back to earn a 2-2 draw on Saturday.
It was another game that Rob Marsden's side were on top in for vast periods, but they had to settle for a point.
Goalscoring has been the big concern in the opening weeks of the new campaign, but Hebburn were quickly out of the traps, and led 2-0 inside 25 minutes thanks largely to the front three of Michael Armstrong, Willie Crew and Gary McCartney, who troubled the Crook defence all afternoon.
The opener came on 23 minutes, when the Armstrong held the ball up before releasing Crew down the right. His centre found McCartney, who swivelled and shot home from 10 yards.
Within two minutes, the advantage was doubled as Crew slotted a pass through for Armstrong to draw the keeper and slide in Hebburn's second, and his first goal of the season.
At this stage, it was all Hebburn, but just before the break Andy Appleby pulled a goal back for Crook, bundling home after Kevin Duncan had parried Chris Wallace's shot.
And early in the second half Appleby was at it again, getting on the end of a right-wing cross to level matters at 2-2.
Only Crook keeper Ian Myers denied Hebburn the win, however, as he saved first from Anthony Myers (58) and then Crew (67) to leave Marsden's men still searching for their first victory.
