Impressive Steph takes first place
STEPHANIE Addison, from Jarrow and Hebburn AC, was an impressive winner of the under-15 girls' 200m in the North Eastern Athletics League meeting at Monkton Stadium last week.
Addison stormed clear of Gateshead's Ashley Hutchinson in 27.1.
In the Jim Hedley Memorial 800m race – honouring the late esteemed coach – Vince Wilson, guided to international level by Hedley, came out of retirement to pace the field through the first lap in 54.00.
Shaun Moralee, of Durham, coached by Wilson, seemed certain to win leading into the final 50m before Elswick's Phil Hurst snatched victory just before the line, recording 1.52.3.
Charmaine Porter, from the Jarrow club, finished first in the under-17 girls' section of the mixed 400m field, clocking a personal best of 59.2.
Lee Henry, from South Shields Harriers, finished first veteran over-35 in 59.5. Jarrow's George Lowry won the under-15 boys' 800m in 2.9.1, with his team-mate Oliver Quinn second in 2.10.7.
Henry was also first in the over-35 section with 13.00 in the 100m.
North Eastern champion Michael Wilson, of Sunderland, was a conclusive winner of the under-15 boys' 800m in 2.06.4 with Shields's Luke Clark third in 2.13.4.
Michael Todd, also from the Shields Club, won the under-15 C race in 2.17.6, with David Wakefield third in 2.19.3
Jarrow's Graeme Taylor finished fifth in a big senior 300m field, recording 8.53.3. Luke Adams, of the Shields club, was ninth in 9.26.
Phil McCluskey won the over-40 section, and Daniel Maine was sixth in the senior 100m in 14.2.
Charmaine Porter gained the bronze medal in the North of England Under-17 and 15 Track and Field Championships at Leigh on Saturday.
Competing in the under-17 girls' 1500m, Porter recorded 4. 45.16. She also took bronze in the 800m.
Former Jarrow athlete Nick Wood, now at Gateshead, also gained the bronze medal in the under-17 boys' 100m hurdles.
Rhys Garricks, of the Jarrow club, was fourth in his under-17 boys' 100m heat in 11.59, and Katie Corner was fifth in her heat of the under-17 girls' 80m hurdles in 12.91.
Jarrow's Amy Hutchinson was fifth in her heat of the under-17 girls' 100m in 14.4. Hannah Holmes, from Jarrow and Hebburn AC, achieved the silver medal in Gateshad Harriers' Young Athletes meeting on Sunday.
Holmes clocked 1.27.31 in the under-nine girls' 400m, with her twin Jessica fifth in 1.38.18.
Hannah was also fifth in the 60m final in 9.41, with Jessica sixth in 9.56.
Matthew Wakefield, from South Shields Harriers, was fifth in the under-11 boys' 600m, while Vicki Thompson, of Jarrow, finished sixth in the senior women's section in the Newcastle Run In The Park 5km Race on Saturday.
Over the Town Moor paths, Thompson clocked 22.49, taking the over-35 veterans' award.
