Jarrovians take positives from defeat
JARROVIANS put in a fine display as they pushed Gateshead all the way.
The visitors had the best of the opening period, however, a sound defence from a committed Jarrow team kept them pegged back to one score.
Slowly the hosts began to force Gateshead back, and after a period of intense pressure, the ball fell to Gary Archbold snr.
Despite being surrounded by players, he opened a gap in the massed ranks to score.
The second half saw Gateshead score two breakaway tries, but Jarrow continued to press.
Sniping runs from Craig Donald caused problems, and it was only last-ditch defence which kept Jarrow out.
The South Tynesiders' efforts were rewarded when Nick Hepple used his pace to pull a try back.
After that, Jarrovians kept the visitors on the back foot, but their defence held firm to win the game, which was sponsored by Donald and Gilbert of Gosforth and Just Exectravel.
Jarrow are looking to bolster their numbers to allow for a second team.
