Hebburn boss tells side to go for it

POSITIVE ... Hebburn boss Paul Bennett.

POSITIVE ... Hebburn boss Paul Bennett.

  • by ROSS GREGORY

HEBBURN Town boss Paul Bennett has told his side to go out and finish the job after they put themselves into a fantastic position to get promoted.

Hebburn are the form side in the Northern League Division Two, having won their last seven games in a row.

That fantastic run has catapulted them from the fringes of the promotion race firmly into contention, transforming them from outsiders to favourites in the last three weeks.

Their hard-fought 2-1 win over fellow contenders Gillford Park last weekend was followed up by another solid display on Wednesday night when they beat North Shields 2-0.

Bennett praised his side’s performance, which moved them within two points of second-placed Morpeth Town with two games in hand, but warned them not to take their foot off the pedal.

He said: “It was another unbelievable performance from everyone on Wednesday night.

“The work rate was phenomenal, and I’m proud of every single player.

“However, it is just three points, and we can’t get carried away. But it has given the lads a great platform for the last eight games of the season.”

Hebburn host Whickham tomorrow, looking to make it eight wins in a row.

Their opponents sit just below mid-table, having had a dip in form after a strong first three months to their season.

But they put in a very good performance in midweek to beat West Allotment Celtic 5-0, and Bennett has warned his players not to take them for granted.

He added: “We have to play tomorrow like we did at North Shields, and look to pick up another three points.

“However, it will be very tough as Whickham are a very good side, and are in a false position in the league.”
