Hebburn can't give new boss a win

NEW Hebburn Town boss Rob Marsden was denied a victory by an injury-time goal at the weekend, in his first game since being handed the reins on a permanent basis.

Marsden, appointed manager in midweek after a spell as caretaker, looked to have guided his side to a priceless three points in their Northern League Division Two basement clash with fellow strugglers Team Northumbria.

But Ross Wilkinson made Hebburn pay for a host of missed chances with a 92nd-minute header to earn the Students a 2-2 draw.

It was the same old story for Hebburn, who threw away a two-goal lead for the seventh time this season.

Keith Oliver had threaded a through ball into Willie Crew's path for the opener after 32 minutes, and after the break, Paul Trosh blazed over and Marc Brocklehurst was denied by the visiting goalkeeper.

But Brocklehurst's corner was powered home by Anthony Myers on the hour as Hebburn appeared to be coasting, only for Graeme Cairns to force the ball home for the Students after a goalmouth melee.

Brocklehurst twice had chances to restore the two-goal lead, and Hebburn were made to pay in added on time by Wilkinson.
