Key stays upbeat, despite cup defeat
BOLDON'S Doug Key praised his side, despite seeing them crash out of the Durham Challenge Cup at the weekend.
Boldon couldn't make it a hat-trick of victories over Northern League opposition, as they fell 5-2 at home to Crook Town.
Boldon battled back from 3-0, thanks to goals from Kris Robertson and Michael Wright with just a few minutes remaining, before Crook sealed the win with two late strikes.
Joint manager Key said: "I couldn't fault the effort the lads put in. They worked really hard.
"Crook's extra fitness told in the end, and we were beaten by a better team."
Next up for Boldon is New Marske, who were too strong for a depleted JARROW side on Saturday.
Dave Bell's side went into the game with more than half a team missing – and it showed, as they lost 5-1.
It was always likely to be tough against a side which had finished as champions and runners-up in the last two seasons, even though Richard Stubbs opened the scoring after a Peter Kane strike rebounded off the bar.
Defensive frailities allowed New Marske to score four times in 15 minutes before half-time, and they rounded off the goals in the last minute.
Bell said: "We had four players pull out on the morning of the game through illness, meaning we were without seven players in total."
SIMONSIDE enjoyed a 3-2 Durham Trophy win over Leam Lane Rangers.
Shaun Edwards opened the scoring on 18 minutes after being set up by Kyle Houshby, and from a free-kick on 26 minutes, a lovely cross from Steven Graham allowed Cameron Fyvie to head home.
Leam Lane pulled a goal back through Alistair Semmence, but after the break Andy Hunter increased the lead, and while David Lucas made it 3-2, Sima held on.
Boss Gordon Diamond said: "Andy Hunter up front was too powerful for the Leam Lane defence, which gave Shaun Edwards space to run in. It was a good, solid performance."
SHIELDS UNITED lost 2-0 against Percy Main for the second time in a week to stay fifth in the Northern Alliance Division One, but HEBBURN REYROLLE progressed in the Durham Trophy, after beating Norton Reserves 2-1.
