Toothless Roofers beaten at Horden

THERE was disappointment for Jarrow Roofing at the weekend as they went down 2-0 to a good Horden outfit in Division Two of the Northern League.

Craig Tate should have done better after great work by Chris Archer early on, and then Archer was denied by James Winter after being put through one-on-one with the goalkeeper by Keith Graydon.

Horden replied with two Craig Hubbard free-kicks that Adam Dowell did well to save, before another free-kick saw Ian Clark curl a left footer around the wall and just inside Dowell's right-hand post a minute before the interval.

Roofing – without the services of star forwards Eifion Williams and Kevin Davison – looked somewhat toothless in attack until the introduction of defender Craig Fannon, who was pushed up front.

His size began to bring some disarray into the Horden defence, and he was unlucky in two scrambles not to force in the equaliser.

Roofing continued to press forward in search of an equaliser, but were left exposed at the back, and with six minutes left Hubbard rifled a great shot over Dowell and in off the bar to send Horden third.
