Lovatt storms to 200m seniors' win

JAMES Lovatt, from Jarrow and Hebburn AC, still a junior under-20, moved up to senior level finishing an emphatic winner of the 200m in the Anne Marie Reashaw Meeting at Shildon.

Lovatt accelerated a fifth of a second clear of Gateshead's Martin Ferguson in 23.20.

Charlotte Pepper, also from the Jarrow club, won the under-17 girls' 100m in 13.00, with her team-mate Katie Corner second in 13.10, and Abigail Smith eighth in 13.40.

Shields's Ashleigh Stone, racing for Middlesbrough, finished third only a 10th of a second behind silver medallist Rebekah Wilmhurst, of Durham, with 13.00 in the senior women's 100m. Jarrow's Victoria Addison was sixth in 14.50.

Rhys Garricks was second in a close finish with Middlesbrough's Richard Hodgson, who prevailed by a 10th of a second with 11.60 in the under-17 boys' 100m.

Georgina Blythe was sixth in the under-15 girls' 200m final in 29.90.

Greg Ritchie and Jake Archer, of Sunderland, both juniors fought out the finish of the senior 800m with Archer gaining command in the sprint for the line clocking 2.00.4 to Ritchie's 2.01.0.

Charmaine Porter, from Jarrow and Hebburn AC, has been selected for the North Eastern team to compete in the London Mini marathon on Sunday.

Porter races in the event for 11 to 16-year-old youngsters over three miles from Old Billingsgate to the Mall as a prelude to the Virgin London Marathon.

Gateshead Harriers stage a Young Athletes' Meeting and a Open Medals Meeting on Sunday, at 9.30am.

Children aged from eight to 10, in school years from three to six compete in throwing, jumping and sprinting with registration from 9am.

Later, from 1pm, track and field events take place in age groups from under-13 to seniors with registration from 12.30pm.

The Transped Blyth Valley 10km Race takes place on Sunday, starting at 10am.

More than 500 entries have been received, but runners can enter on the day at the race headquarters in the Quay Pub from 9am. A fast, flat course goes from Blyth Quayside to Seaton Sluice and back.
