Massive clash for Hebburn

HEBBURN play host to Ulgham Village in Northumberland League Division Two tomorrow, in a massive fixture for both clubs, writes BRIAN McVITTIE.

Hebburn hold a slender four-point lead over Tillside in the title race, while Ulgham are only a further 13 points behind in third.

Hebburn have been in Division Two since they joined the league in 1996, but know a win tomorrow would see them gain promotion for the first time.

This will not be an easy task though against an in-form Ulgham, who can leap frog Hebburn into the promotion places if they secure victory.

Hence tomorrow's clash is the biggest game of the season for the two clubs involved, with only two league fixture remaining.

In the previous meetings between the sides this season Hebburn have managed to get out Ulgham's key batsmen Chris Tait and Shaun Collins relatively cheaply, and that will be the aim once again.

A lot will also depend on how the Hebburn batsmen play the left arm pace of David Moore, who despite missing the first part of the season, is still the leading wicket-taker (30) in the division

He is backed up by Daryll Campbell and Lee Hearn, who have taken 47 wickets between them.

Hebburn will welcome back several key batsmen for the match with Michael Collins and Seb Aklaque returning to the top of the order.

Also back in action will be influential all-rounders Aidan Berry and Lee Tatum.

Unfortunately leading run scorer Nick Whitehead (472 runs) and fast bowler Simon Whitehead are unavailable.

Captain Lee Tatum, said: "We've had a good season this year, it will become a great one if we win on Saturday and seal promotion."
