Jarrow and Hebburn AC’s Andy Burn enjoys second successive victory in six days at Gateshead Park Run

Andy Burn, from Jarrow and Hebburn AC, reeled off his second successive victory in six days with an impressive performance in the Gateshead Park Run on Saturday.

Over the undulating paths of Saltwell Park, Burn immediately made a decisive break from the start, and extended his lead to two minutes over Gateshead’s Martin Slater with a fast time of 16:26.

Jon Balmer, from South Shields Harriers, was 13th in the field of 297 in 20:08, with Jamie Ward 28th in 21:32 and Jarrow’s Brian Hurst 39th in 22:22.

Mick Thornton was 42nd in 22:27 and second over 50, with Andy Thornton 60th in 23:27.

Jonny Evans, also from the Jarrow club, finished a resounding winner of the South Shields Park Run on Saturday.

Evans, aged 18, forged clear of Scott Ellis, of North Shields AC, recording 17:50 for the 5km over the Leas, with Ellis 39 seconds behind.

Shields’ Dan Josephs was third in 18:59, with Jarrow’s James Martin, aged 15, fourth in 19:25.

Darren Parks was seventh in 20:23 and second over 40, with Shields’ Will Crossley 10th in 20:29 and Shields’ Mark Wood 11th in 21:07 and third over 40.

Jarrow’s Malcolm Leece was 19th in 21:58 and fourth over 40, with Shields’ Craig Robe 20th in 22:07 and Jay Bowley 21st in 22:18 and fifth over 40.

Jarrow’s Mike McNally was 22nd in 22:18 and fourth over 50, with Alan Martin 30th in 23:22 and Shields’ Tommy Copp 40th in 24:42 and first over 65.

Jeff Henderson finished 43rd in 24:49, with James Cole 55th in 26:03 and Shields’ George Henderson 64th in 26:59 and ninth over 45.

Jarrow’s Brian Taylor was 66th in 27:20 and fourth over 50, with Allan Ball 68th in 27:30 and Shields’ Neil Reay 71st in 27:48 and fifth over 50.

Shields’ Jacky Murdy finished 29th overall in the mixed field of 166 in 23:13 and was first in the women’s section, 43 seconds ahead of North Shields’ Kate Dyson.

Shields’ Kelly Beard-Folen was fifth in 25:08, with Gillian Nichol seventh in 25:43 and third over 40 and Angela Charlton 10th in 26:32.

Lesley Downey was 15th in 27:50 and first over 55, with Claire Stoker 16th in 28:02 and Kim Lancaster 20th in 28:52.

Jeanette Hewitson was 23rd in 29:19 and first over 50, with Jackie Heads 24th in 29:26 and Helen Prudham 28th in 30:50.

Patricia White was 30th in 31:07 and first over 60, with Michelle Loftus 34th in 31:47 and second over 50.

Ali Virgo was 35th in 32:33 and third over 55, with Cheryl Reah 44th in 35:24 and Joanne Ayre 49th in a personal best time of 39:11.

Amardeep Sudan was 50th in 39:42 and third over 55, with Amy Hardy 54th in 44:23
