Freddie Woodman has his say on one of the big decisions Rafa Benitez has to make at Newcastle

That’s the verdict of Freddie Woodman, who plays alongside the forward for Newcastle United and England Under-19s.

Armstrong is being assessed after suffering an injury playing for his country earlier this month.

The thigh problem could keep him out of England’s European Under-19 Championship campaign next month.

Armstrong scored 20 goals for League One club Coventry City last season.

And his preference is to stay at St James’s Park next term rather than be farmed out again, though United manager Rafa Benitez may feel he would benefit from another loan.

Goalkeeper Woodman feels Armstrong can make an impression in the Championship for his boyhood club.

“I think he can bring everything,” said Woodman. “I’ve seen him since I’ve come to the club when I was 14.

“He’s strong, he’s aggressive. He’ll have a lot of confidence coming off 20 goals in League One.

“Arma’s a top talent and he’ll score goals in any team.

“All the young lads must have a good chance next season. Hopefully, they’ll get a good chance.”

A clutch of Championship clubs, as well as Coventry, are monitoring Armstrong’s situation, but the Chapel House-born player is focused on impressing Benitez in pre-season.

Armstrong, however, must first recover from the thigh injury he suffered playing against Mexico.

Speaking last month, he said: “If you ask any footballer, they want to work hard in pre-season to try and get in the team.

“If that doesn’t work out, then loan is probably going to be the option again.

“I’m just going to wait and see, train hard and see what happens. I’ll be going back to Newcastle for pre-season, and will see how that goes.”
