The Gazette revealed yesterday that Magpies skipper Fabricio Coloccini has spoken about leaving Tyneside this summer to return to Argentina.

And today, Coloccini has said he wants to hold talks with Newcastle over a possible exit, with the club possibly open to releasing him from the final year of his contract.

If Coloccini does leave, boss Rafa Benitez will need to bolster his squad with some defensive signings, and one player mentioned as a potential recruit is QPR centre-half Steven Caulker.

However, the player appears to be in demand from a number of Premier League clubs, with West Bromwich Albion the latest side to be linked with a move for him.

Caulker has also been linked with Sunderland and Crystal Palace, whose manager Alan Pardew could return to St James’s Park for a transfer raid.

The Croydon Advertiser today claimed Pardew will look to sign Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul this summer.
