CHEIK Tiote has sounded a rallying cry ahead of Newcastle United’s visit to Stamford Bridge.
The midfielder insists he and his team-mates can beat Chelsea – and keep their Champions League hopes alive.
Newcastle have not won at Stamford Bridge in the league since 1986, and the bookmarkers have the home side as red-hot favourites to take all three points.
However, fifth-placed United have drawn their last two Premier League games at the ground and last season they won there in the Carling Cup.
Roberto Di Matteo’s side, a point behind Newcastle in the table, are unbeaten in 11 league and cup games and are full of confidence, while United’s six-game winning streak was brought to an end last weekend by Wigan Athletic, who won 4-0 at the DW Stadium.
“It’s not impossible,” said Tiote. “In the Premier League, anybody can beat anybody on the day.”
“But we will concede more goals if we play like we did (at Wigan). We need to be compact and defend together as a team.”
Di Matteo has insisted he will field a strong team, resisting the temptation to rest players ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final against Liverpool.
Tiote, however, does not think there is such a thing as a weak Chelsea team, given the resources at Di Matteo’s disposal.
“It doesn’t matter what team they put out – it doesn’t make a difference,” he added.
“They will still be quality players, and will be capable of beating any Premier League team.”
