Nicky ready to be sent to Coventry

NICKY Butt is on standby to come in for the suspended Kevin Nolan against Coventry City.

Nolan was dismissed for two bookable offences in United's 2-0 home win over Watford, and will have to sit out Wednesday night's visit to the Ricoh Arena.

And Butt – whose last start came more a month ago away to Sheffield United – is set for a recall to Chris Hughton's line-up, having come off the bench in the second half on Saturday with Newcastle pinned back by Malky Mackay's side.

While frustrated at Nolan's sending off, Hughton – who collected his third Championship Manger of the Month award before the game for his side's 100 per cent record last month – was pleased with how his players coped with being a man down.

"We'll miss Kevin – that was a shame, but what we do have is options," Hughton told the Gazette.

"You always fear the worst. What we know about this team is that they're a resilient group.

"Watford are a good team, they are a tough team to beat – you can see why they are where they are.

"If we didn't work to defend as well as we did, we knew they would expose us, but in the end we were worthy winners.

"What we have seen in recent games is a battling spirit – we can probably score more goals, and be a lot more offensive, but we've shown an all-round team effort."

* Tickets for Wednesday night's game against Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena (7.45pm kick-off) are on general sale from United's ticket office priced 25 for adults.
