Nine-man Jarrow bow out to Boro

JARROW'S hopes of silverware this season have ended after they were dumped out of the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup by Scarborough.

Boss Dave Bell has now set his sights on a strong finish to the league campaign after three unanswered second-half goals knocked his side out.

But he admitted being disappointed with his team's indiscipline as they finished the game with just nine men.

The game sprang into life when Scarborough took the lead on 49 minutes through Joshua Green.

The visitors were then awarded a hotly-disputed penalty in the 68th minute, which saw Liam Poppleton dismissed for his protests, and Joel Ramm converted.

With a man less, Jarrow still created chances, but their hopes were ended by Chris Maw's 75th-minute red card for a second bookable offence.

Lee Buglass went close to pulling a goal back with a chip, but Scarborough had the final say with Billy Logan's stoppage-time strike.

Bell said: "We worked hard, and probably shaded the first half. But they are a good side, and we have no complaints about the result.

"We're disappointed that we lost our discipline, but we will take the positives out of the game."

We were much closer to them than in the last couple of games."
