Bulmer is at the double!

KATHERINE Bulmer achieved a double among several victories for Jarrow and Hebburn AC, but they had to settle for third position in their UK Young Athletes meeting at Darlington.

Bulmer, in the under-17 girls' section, won the shot event with a distance of 10.29m, and the javelin with 25.82m.

Abigail Smith was a conclusive winner of the under-15 girls' 75m hurdles in 12.3secs, with Natasha Teasdale first in the B race in 12.7secs.

Rhys Garricks finished a tenth of a second down with 11.6 to Bingley's Aaron Aldridge in the under-15 boys' 100m, but turned the tables in the 200m, finishing four metres clear in 24.1secs.

Tristan Peel finished second in the 400m, but won the 800m, while Alex Booth was second in the 1500m.

Shaun Barras was an impressive winner of the under-17 boys' 3000m in 10.06.6.

Charlie Wynn-Davison was second in the under-13 boys' 1500m in 5.30.7, but bounced back to win the 200m in 28.2secs.

Lucy Mulvain stormed clear in the under-15 girls' 100m, winning in 13.1secs, while Charmaine Porter led from the gun, producing a runaway 1500m success in 5.02.6.

Stephanie Addison was again in imperious form in the under-13 girls' section, winning the 75m in 10.7secs, with Lauren Kyle first in the B event in 11.3secs. Addison showed a clean pair of heels to the opposition in the 150m with 20.8secs, and Shona Farish won the B race

in 22.0secs.

Farish won the shot with 6.8m, the long jump (3.68m) and the B event (3.65m), but despite their strong finish, Jarrow's total of 200 points trailed Harrogate's 278, with Bingley winning on 289.

Sunderland Strollers' Pier to Pier Mixed Terrain Race on Sunday has again attracted a huge field exceeding 1000.

Starting at South Shields Pier, runners follow a route along the beach to Marsden, taking in the cliff-top paths to Whitburn and along the beach again to finish at Roker Pier, taking in a distance of around seven miles.

Mike Jones, of South Shields Harriers, has a fine record in the race, and again goes for a top-10 finish.
