Moore out in front in junior race
JACK Moore stormed to a resounding victory as youngsters from Jarrow and Hebburn AC dominated in a Junior 5km event at the weekend.
The club had great success during Teesdale AC's Raby Castle meeting at Staindrop, near Darlington, on Sunday.
Moore was the early leader in the castle grounds from his team-mate Shaun Barras, and Toby Heighman of the home club.
And he pulled away to establish a winning gap of 45 seconds over Barras, finishing the course in 19:18 in the windy conditions, with Heighman third in 20:59.
Jarrow's George Lowery finished fourth in 21:04, with Tristan Peel fifth in 21:14, while Mark and Chris Bunn were eighth and 12th in 22:00 and 22:34 respectively.
Jennifer Bunn was 20th overall, but second in the girls' section with 24:30, as Siobhan Miller, of Blackhill Bounders AC, Consett, won in 24:19. Eleanor Murray was fourth in 26:18.
In the senior race over two laps, Jarrow's Michael Bunn finished 25th in the field of 415, and third in the veterans' over-45 section with 38:50.
Morpeth's Terry Wall won by 63 seconds from Jonathan Archer, of Low Fell, in 33:11.
Mark Slesser, also of the Jarrow club, was 67th in 42:12, with Tim Lowery 109th in 44:03.
Graeme White was 172nd in 47:35, and fifth over-50, with Alan Slesser sixth in the same age group in 190th overall, with 48:16.
Malcolm Stephenson, from South Shields Harriers, was third in the over-65s in 49:41, with Ken McDonald fifth in 52:02, and Dave Whitmore seventh in 52:14. Dave Collins was 249th in 52:06.
Nick Ridgeon, from South Shields Harriers, won the 110m hurdles, but the Tyne and Wear team were only fourth in the National Junior League fixture at Carlisle on Sunday. Ridgeon finished clear of his rivals with 16.9secs.
Laura Watt was third in the high jump with 1.55m, and Michelle Bratton was also third in the B event with 1.45m, but Glasgow finished first.
