Durham celebrate first win of the County Championship season

Durham completed their first win of the season when they beat Lancashire by 73 runs in the final session of an absorbing and uninterrupted County Championship Division One match today.

With the threat of rain not far away, the Emirates Riverside floodlights were on from mid-afternoon, but it was in the morning session when Lancashire lost their way.

Needing 325 to win following Paul Collingwood’s overnight declaration, they lost five wickets and it needed a battling, unbeaten 60 from Liam Livingstone to keep them afloat.

He put on 56 for the ninth wicket with Kyle Jarvis, who fell in the third over after tea to a nonchalant catch at short leg by Keaton Jennings, giving James Weighell his third wicket.

Graham Onions, previously out of sorts, trimmed Simon Kerrigan’s off stump and Lancashire were all out for 251.

There were three wickets for Brydon Carse, including two of the three which fell for seven runs in the morning.
